Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) conducts RRB ALP exam every year. This exam is conducted for recruitment of Assistant Loco Pilot in Indian Railways. Those candidates who are interested in this RRB Prayagraj, RRB Gorakhpur, RRB Ajmer, RRB Kolkata, RRB Mumbai, RRB Chennai and Other recruitment can apply for this exam. The RRB ALP (Assistant Loco Pilot) exam application fee details are as follows:
General and OBC Candidates
- Fee: ?500
- Refund: ?400 refunded after appearing in the exam.
SC/ST, Women, EWS, Ex-servicemen, and PwBD Candidates
- Fee: ?250
- Refund: ?250 refunded after appearing in the exam.

Exam Notification
For RRB ALP 2025, there were 18799 vacancies for different zones. The no. of vacancies for 2025 will be notified soon on the official website.
Pay Scale: ?19,900 (Basic Pay) + Allowances (Gross: ?35,000–?40,000 approx.)
RRB ALP is a Group-C level post in Indian Railways.
Eligibility Criteria
For applying for RRB ALP 2025, candidates must meet the given eligibility criteria:
Age Limit: 18-30 years, with relaxation for certain categories, refer to official notification for more details.
Educational Qualification: ITI/Diploma/BE/B.Tech in Mechanical, electrical or electronics, from any UGC recognized institution.
Attempts Allowed: Unlimited till age limit exceeds.
Experience: Not required

Stage 1 (Computer Based Test):
This stage is primarily qualifying in nature.

This stage is divided into Part A and Part B.
Part A:

- Engineering Drawing Basics (Lines, Views, Projections), Units and Measurements, Work, Power, and Energy, Speed and Velocity, Basic Electricity (Ohm's Law, Electrical Components), Levers and Simple Machines, Environment Basics (Conservation, Pollution), Tools and Measurements, Heat and Temperature
- General Awareness on Current Affairs (Same as Stage 1 topics)
Part B (Trade-Specific)
The syllabus here depends on the trade selected by the candidate. Topics generally align with ITI/Diploma standards in the respective trade. Below are the common trades:
- Electrical: Basic Electrical Engineering, Wiring, Power Systems, Electrical Machines, etc.
- Mechanical: Thermodynamics, IC Engines, Strength of Materials, Machine Tools, etc.
- Electronics: Basic Electronics, Microprocessors, Communication Systems, Digital Electronics, etc.
- Automobile: Transmission Systems, Engine Performance, Fuel Systems, etc.
- Fitter: Welding, Drilling, Machine Operations, etc.
Stage 3 (Computer Based Aptitude Test)
The CBAT (Computer-Based Aptitude Test) for RRB ALP Stage 3 is designed to evaluate a candidate's cognitive and psychometric abilities necessary for the role of an Assistant Loco Pilot. It does not have any detailed syllabus.
Exam Pattern
The selection process of RRB ALP 2025 consists of three stages of examination. The detailed pattern in given below:
Computer Based Test (CBT) - 1
- General Awareness: 15 Questions
- Mathematics: 30 Questions
- General Intelligence and Reasoning: 25 Questions
- General Science: 30 Questions
- Total: 100 Questions, 90 minutes
- Negative marking : 1/3 marks for every wrong answer.
Computer Based Test (CBT) - 2
- General Awareness: 15 Questions
- Mathematics: 15 Questions
- General Intelligence and Reasoning: 15 Questions
- General Science: 15 Questions
- Technical Knowledge: 75 Questions
- Total: 120 Questions, 120 minutes
- Negative marking : 1/3 marks for every wrong answer.
Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT):
All candidates who clear the CBT 1 and 2 exams will be called for final round i.e. Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), only after that final selection list will be prepared. Note that, there shall be no negative marking in the Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) round.
