The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts recruitment for the post of Scientific Assistant in the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit:

  • General: 18-30 years.
  • Age Relaxation is available for certain categories:
    • SC/ST: 5 years
    • OBC: 3 years
    • PH (Physically Handicapped): 10 years (13 years for OBC, 15 years for SC/ST)
    • Ex-Servicemen (Gen): 3 years after deduction of military service
    • Ex-Servicemen (OBC): 6 years after deduction of military service
    • Ex-Servicemen (SC/ST): 8 years after deduction of military service
    • Central Govt. Civilian Employees: Up to 10 years depending on category
    • Domiciled Residents of Jammu & Kashmir: Up to 10 years depending on category
    • Defense Personnel disabled in hostilities: Up to 10 years depending on category

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects, or Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Applications.
  • Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering.
  • The degree or diploma should be from a recognized institute.
  • Candidates must have completed their full-time 3-year diploma course after the 10+2 examination.

Nationality:

Must be either:

  • a citizen of India, or
  • a subject of Nepal, or
  • a subject of Bhutan, or
  • a Tibetan refugee who migrated to India before January 1, 1962.
