SSC Stenographer is exam conducted by Staff Selection Commission at national level for Group C and D stenographers posts. Application mode for SSC Stenographer exam is online with job location across India. Notification is released on SBI’s official website at www.ssc.nic.in. SSC Stenographer’s pay scale is 9300-34800 (for Grade C) and the pay scale of 5200-20200 (for Grade D) will include allowances for Transport Allowance, House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Dearness Allowance (DA). Selection process for SSC Stenographer is in two phases i.e. Written exam and Skill test.

Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Candidate must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent from a recognized Board or University.
- Only those candidates who have the required skills in stenography are eligible to apply.
Age Limit
- Stenographer Grade 'C': Minimum Age is 18 years and Maximum Age is 30 years.
- Stenographer Grade ‘D’: Minimum Age is 18 years and Maximum Age is 27 years.
- The age relaxation provided to the candidates applying for the post.
Nationality/Citizenship
A candidate must be either a citizen of India, subject of Nepal, subject of Bhutan or Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962.

Exam Pattern
SSC conducts stenographer exam in two phases:
- Objective Written Test
- Skill Test
Objective Written Test
There will be a negative marking of 1/3 of the marks for each wrong answer. The exam duration is 2 hours 40 minutes for candidates who are specially abled and 2 hours for other candidates.

Skill Test
If a candidate qualifies in the Written test, he/she will have to appear for the stenography test which is qualifying in nature.
The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English / Hindi at the speed of 100 w.p.m. (Grade C) and 80 w.p.m. (Grade D) which will be transcribed on the computer only. The transcription time varies with language and post as follows:
- GROUP C: For English language – 40 minutes, for Hindi language 55 minutes.
- GROUP D: For English language – 50 minutes, for Hindi language 65 minutes.
